Name Tag Definitions: Part 5

These definitions will provide the difference between stock items and custom items. And what you need to know about ordering each kind.

Most of our name tags come with two options. Custom and Stock. Sometimes, trying to figure out what you need can be a struggle.

definitions of name tags name badges and other personal identificationStock Products

First things first, let’s cover what “stock” means. “Stock” refers to an item that is already made or has distinct parts that do not require any added printing or engraving. These items will ship immediately for your use. Stock items are available as Mighty Badges, Speedy Badges and any other reusable products. These “stock” items are ideal for high-turnover companies such as retail stores or call centers. They are also perfect for volunteers. Use each of these products over and over as they have interchangeable pieces.

Pre-Defined Productsdefinitions of name tags name badges and other personal identification

This term may be a bit confusing to some our customers. These “pre-defined” items consist of name tags or name plates that follow a specific, already established design. We call them “Classic Name Tags” and “Classic Name Plates.” And, they are custom in nature. Customize them by selecting the size, the number of lines, a material color and a fastener or holder. We offer several professional name tag and name plate templates to personalize for your needs. These templates do not allow the addition of a logo.

Custom Productsdefinitions of name tags name badges and other personal identification

“Custom” items are made specifically for one customer as per their order. Order all of our name tags and name plates as custom products. This means that you can design your product, whether it be a name tag or name plate, to meet your needs. Design them with names, titles and logos or sometimes full color graphics.

Here at Name Tag, Inc., we pride ourselves on having exact products for which our customers are looking. And, as part of this definitions series, we want to make sure that you understand what you’re getting. Having stock items means that you, as our loyal customers, get what you need and quickly. And by ordering those custom items, it means that you get exactly what you need, no matter what. If we don’t seem to have what you’re looking for, please give us a call, and we’ll find something that works!

Name Tag Definitions: Part 4

Defining our business helps our customers to understand what we do.

While our FAQ page is full of your questions, we thought we’d get down to the nitty-gritty for you. Here is part four of our definition series. This time we thought we’d cover a favorite question. We get a lot of questions about how customers should provide their lists for their name tag orders. Hopefully, this information will clarify some of these issues.

First things, first. Your list submission process.

You must prepare lists to our specifications. Please submit all names, titles, and other text for your order in digital form. We do not accept submissions via fax or verbally over the phone.

Enter text exactly as you want it to appear on your product, including upper and lower case letters and punctuation. Your list must contain all text you want to be engraved. For duplicate tags, enter the text twice. Please make sure that you are proofreading your list carefully. We use this list exactly as you submit it to print your name tags, so if there is a spelling error on your list, it will be printed that way!

We will not edit your list. Lists not prepared to our specifications will be returned for correction, which may cause a delay in production.

Submit all text as follows:

  • making sure you get your list right for submission definitions of name tags name badges and other personal identificationInformation for each line of text must be provided just as it would appear on the tag/plate. If the layout has the first and last names “stacked” instead of on the same line, then the names will need to be submitted on different lines in your list.
  • For tags with one line of text, enter information without leaving blank lines between tag information. If your tags have multiple lines of text, leave one blank line between each tag’s information.
  • For duplicate tags, you must enter the text twice. If you don’t, we will only produce one tag!
  • Remove all formatting (size, bold, etc.) from your list.
  • You may enter a line of descriptive text into your list to separate groups with different features (fastener type, the number of lines, etc.).

Hopefully, this clears up some things.

We’d also like to cover the difference between uppercase, small caps and mixed case.

small caps explanation making sure you get your list right for submission definitions of name tags name badges and other personal identificationSometimes using capital letters on a name tag can get a little confusing. While most customers want mixed case on their name tags, occasionally we find some people want a variety. Here is what we offer.

Because your name and title lists will be used exactly as you type them, it is important to be consistent when submitting your lists to us. The following guidelines should assist you in formatting your list correctly.

Upper Case

Letters entered in lists as capital letters will show on our products as capital letters, all with the same height.

Mixed Case

Letters entered in lists using both capital and lower case letters, mixed case, will show on our products exactly as entered.

Small Capitals

Some fonts are small capital fonts. These fonts will display lower case letters as capital letters that are slightly shorter than the standard capital letters. All lower case letters show as small capital letters if you select a small caps font. If you submit your list in all capital letters, this effect will be lost.

LOGO size and PLACEMENT

Most of our name tags and name badges have the option to use a logo or graphic. However, there are several things to know when providing your logo to be used on your name tags.

Size:

definitions of name tags name badges and other personal identificationTry to limit the amount of detail in your logo. At smaller sizes, incredibly detailed logos are not visible, and many processes have a hard time duplicating it. Provide only enough detail to make the logo recognizable.

The size of your logo on the name tag needs to leave enough room for the names and titles that you wish to provide. Names and logos should be large enough to read from at least 10 feet away.

Placement:

definitions of name tags name badges and other personal identificationFor logos that incorporate an image as well as text, consider just using one or the other. When there is less detail in the logo, it can be placed to fill the entire area allowable on the tag, thus the larger it can be.

Logos that are short and wide look best at the top or bottom center of the tag. Logos that are square, or taller than they are in width, will look better on the left or right side of the tag.

IMAGE BLEED

definitions of name tags name badges and other personal identificationThis feature is only available on our full-color name tags. A bleed means that the background colors of a design may extend off the edges of the tag. The design may bleed on any and all sides of the name tag. If you are creating a tag that will have an image that fills the background area of the tag or meets the edge, you will need to create the background image to the exact size, or larger, of the tag. Keep the corners of your image square even if you plan on rounding them.

Name Plate Holders
A name plate holder will display your name plates on walls, cubicles or desks. Most people simply refer to these products as holders, brackets or sliders. However, none of these terms fully describes the products we offer. A simple way to clear up what you need is to answer the question of where you are putting the name plate.

Our name plate holder products include:

Desk Holders
These simple, curved-style holders will display a name plate on a desk or other flat, horizontal surface. A name plate slides easily into the holder and can be changed as needed.

Wall Mounts
Attach or mount these flat-style holders to a wall or door to display your name plate. By using adhesive or nails/screws, these holders are easy to install. And, your name plate slides into the holder just as easily as a desk holder.

Cubicle Hangers
This clear, plastic holder displays your name plate on your cubicle wall or over a door. The name plate holds in place by the pressure of the flap or can attach to the plastic flap with double-sided tape for a more finished look.

Plastic Desk Bases
With a slanted opening in these flat-style holders, your name plate will stand upright for easy viewing. These are commonly used on desks or other flat, horizontal surfaces.

Other name plate products that we carry:

Reusable Name Plates
Do-it-yourself (DIY) options are all the rage these days! And what better way to do this than with a reusable name plate system. This system consists of four parts: a name plate holder, a metal back plate, a clear printable insert, and a Lexan lens. The metal back plate is engraved with your company or personal logo to identify your brand and unify your name plates in an office or professional setting. The printable insert is clear so as to show the back plate under the printed name. And, the lens slides over the top of everything to keep it all together and give it all a professional, finished look.

Contemporary Name Plates
Designed to complement any decor these name plates are the perfect solution for an office or reception area. This system also consists of four parts: an attachment, a back plate, a printable insert, and a clear lens. These contemporary name plates work much like the reusable name plate system and are just as easy to use. The benefit to the contemporary system is that it comes with interchangeable back attachments. Choose from a wall attachment, a cubicle stand, or a desk stand.

Name Tag Definitions: Part 1

Defining our business helps our customers to fully understand what we do.

While our FAQ pages are full of your questions, we thought we’d get down to the nitty-gritty for you. Here are some definitions of how our business runs. From what a name tag actually is to all the fun and fabulous details of ordering, we want to make this process as easy as possible.

So, what is a name tag or name badge?
definitions of name tags name badges and other personal identification
A name tag or name badge is a piece of plastic, metal or sticker worn on the outermost clothing piece. This provides a means of displaying the wearer’s name for others to view. They are commonly worn in places such as at a grocery store or restaurant so that a customer will know who works there.

Now let’s get some of the more technical definitions out of the way.

Need By Date
We often reference a need by date on our website when a customer is placing an order. This phrase might be confusing. A need by date is the exact date that a customer needs to have the product in hand. While we do our best to match everyone’s need by date, this date is not a guarantee.

Proof
A proof shows an image of one layout of a product. It is intended to be used for a final approval of the product ordered before heading into production. Proofs frequently include a price quote. Proofs are sent to the customer by customer service so that they will go directly into the production process once approved.

Design Worksheet
A design worksheet is only provided when you may not fully know what you are requesting for your design. It may show several variations for a layout and is intended to help narrow down the choice for a customer who is not sure what they want. The customer would look at the design worksheet and indicate which variation they like most. They may also make any changes to it they would like to see. Once a variation is decided upon, it is then sent as a proof for final approval by the customer. Even if the customer approves of a variation on the design worksheet, it will still be followed with a proof so there are no other versions represented on the page with the customer’s written approval.

First Article
A first article allows the customer to obtain one physical sample item of the product being ordered. These are made to the proof’s specifications before the entire order is purchased. These are highly recommended for customers with very detailed specifications.
