Donation Spotlight: The Wyandotte Veterans Honor Guard

The Wyandotte Veterans Honor Guard has been honoring our country, our flag and our veterans for many years. We firmly believe that every veteran has earned military honors at their funeral and will provide these honors at the family’s request. The Honor Guard works in hand with 15 local funeral homes and travels to wherever needed when requested. People who have seen us at funerals have requested that we do Memorial Services for their family members who did not receive military honors at their funeral. We use our own personal cars and gas. We also perform Flag services for patriotism programs at schools and churches and Flag raising ceremonies for other events when requested.

There are currently 42 members of the Wyandotte Veterans Honor Guard, 36 of them active. In 2009, we participated in 143 veterans services and last year provided military honors for 134 veterans. The members of the WVHG are all volunteers who take pride in being able to fulfill their duties to our fallen comrades. We have done as many as three and four services in a single day.The Honor Guard consists of members from Wyandotte American Legion Post 217, VFW Post 1136, P.L.A.V. Post 7, Riverview American Legion Post 389, Allen Park American Legion Post 409 and the Marine Corps League – Downriver Detachment.

The Wyandotte Veterans Honor Guard is solely supported from donations. Anyone who interested in supporting these very dedicated veterans is urged to contact WVHG Secretary Bob Salamon by writing him at 17575 Valade St. Riverview, MI. 48193 or by E-Mail at
